The State of Christianity Today

We see all kinds of things these days that make us wonder what is going on. People violently protesting. Other countries threatening to drop bombs on us or others. A whole litany of things makes us not only wonder what is going on but, also, what is the state of Christianity today?

I currently attend the Christian Leaders Institute, and I asked its president, Rev. Henry Reyenga, a pastor for 30 years, what HE thought about the state of Christianity today. He said that he thinks it is actually strong and that Christian Leaders are rising up and peoples’ walk with God is strengthening. He remembered a time when Christians could agreed on some things and disagree on others and still be friends and he wants to see that return. He said that along with the current state of Christianity he sees a revival within the next thirty years where more people come to God as well as strengthen their walks with him.

I think the state of Christianity has always been challenging for Christians. In fact, Matthew 10:22 tells Christians, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved” (KJV). Christ is the one who knows our thoughts and fears. He is our comforter and best and closest friend.

We, as Christians, have a responsibility to bring the Gospel to the world. Sometimes that means letting people know about God and then having them decide what to do. That is a hard thing for a lot of us, especially me. I want to not only bring the Gospel to people, but I also want to tell them of the errors they are making in their lives. I need to realize that sometimes I just need to plant the seed by bringing the Gospel to people and then let THEM decide what to do with it. It is called free will.

Christianity will never die, and everything we do as true Christians is to glorify God. I remember learning about the first three hundred years of Christianity and how so many people were tortured and even killed by non-believers or pagans as they were called back then. It makes me realize that writing about this, or preaching a Sermon, or anything else I do for God is easy when compared to the sacrifices that others gave who came before me.

God bless you.
